Gpi4Med.BLOOD, reliability and innovation for 133 Blood Banks
SOFTWARE
The Client
Saudi Arabia has a population of over 30 million and records about 1 million donations per year, of which 70% is managed by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
In 2022, GPI won the tender for the provision of the SaaS blood ecosystem management software including installation and maintenance services, integration with equipment and hospital information systems, and staff training.
The Gpi4Med.BLOOD solution will be used by all transfusion organizations in Saudi Arabia: the Ministry of Health, Universities, Security Forces, Specialist Hospitals, the National Guard, and the Armed Forces Blood Banks.
The Needs
The primary goal of the Saudi Health Ministry is to have, by 2030, a unified database for the 133 Blood Bank facilities that appropriately responds to requests and needs for planning and programming of both the strategic direction and individual centers.
The high execution capacities proved by GPI and the quality of its technologies were praised by the Saudi Ministry of Health in a letter sent to the company, stating: “Your collective efforts in meeting the deadlines, carrying out a comprehensive staff training, providing support during and after the project launch, and demonstrating unparalleled dedication have been crucial to achieve our project milestones.”
By the end of 2023 – in just one year – GPI’s Blood Business Unit completed the implementation of the transfusion information system across Saudi Arabia.
The Challenge
The Gpi4Med.BLOOD system fully supports the MOH Saudi Vision 2030 and optimizes the operability of Blood Banks
The Unified Database streamlines donor information and ensures the safety of blood units:
- Simplifies the management of information and donations.
- Ensures the screening of potential donors, automatically rejecting deferred donors (positive cases).
- Ensures the suitability of blood units or components for patients, prioritizing their safety and well-being.
- Allows planning for different needs, providing an adequate supply of blood bags in remote areas, and in case of critical events, such as pilgrimages or conflicts.
- Helps prevent the inclusion of contaminated blood donors in all regions of Saudi Arabia.
The Solution
The Gpi4Med.BLOOD platform marks the evolution of Blood Banks technological infrastructure that required a substantial adjustment to the new needs of the MOH.
In this context, Gpi4Med.BLOOD stood out as the solution capable of guaranteeing this transformation, thanks to its great reliability, versatility, and simplicity: elements that fully meet the needs of Blood Banks in urban and remote areas.
In addition to operational advantages, the technical quality and the ability to effectively integrate with the existing infrastructure were relevant in the choice of Gpi4Med.BLOOD.
Gpi4Med.BLOOD is a modular environment, designed to manage all blood supply chain processes completely and securely:
- Donor Recruitment
- Donation Management
- Bag Processing and Labeling
- Laboratory Tests
- Warehouse Management
- Distribution
- Transfusion
The choice of Gpi4Med.BLOOD ensures efficiency in such a crucial sector for healthcare, because it improves the safety of transfusions, traceability, and hemovigilance.
